dying daisies

Is this a weird way to end the year? Posting flowers that are way past their prime?

I just loved the way these daisy stems twisted and turned before the blooms began to wilt. The rose, of course, were the opposite. They had heavy heads after just one day.

Nobody every takes pictures of dying flowers, but I think they're quite compelling. Not unlike 2006, which was beautiful while it lasted.

birthday

Originally uploaded by Hambone and Jennicakes.

I had a birthday on Tuesday, but it seems that the majority of presents arrived today. Not complaining!

I feel like a total child right now, because, when my brother was about four or so, he was a total clotheshorse. If he got clothes for Christmas or his birthday, he would take them off to his room to try them on.

Like, immediately. It could take two hours for him to open a small stack of gifts.

So it was with me today. I picked up a package from Hambone’s grandparents this morning in a tank top and jeans. It included a sweater that I tried on immediately and have been wearing ever since.

Then the UPS guy appeared with stuff from my mom. I didn’t try on the pjs she sent, but only because I had a nail appointment and plans for cocktails.

On the way to said nail appointment, I got stopped by my mailman who had boxes from my mother-in-law. I didn’t get a chance to open them till I was fully manicured, but as soon as I could, I opened up my new Jessie Steele apron, and on it stayed.

Would it be weird to wear it to a bar?

So hear I am, in my “As Seen On Desperate Housewives” pinny and pink sweater, trying to curl up so my Mac “i” can capture all the birthday goodness. My new pjs are waiting for me on the bed.

Of course, I suppose I could have gone whole hog and stuck a Williams Sonoma gift card on my forehead, or embroidered some Jenny Hart designs on my skirt. Maybe next year?
