The Tie One On Pinafore Challenge got extended once or twice, so it's really kind of sad that I just finished this afternoon.

Okay, the WHOLE truth is that I finished the same apron in different fabrics a good while ago, but when Janet of Primrose Design sent me these scrumptiously coordinating vintage fabrics, I knew I had to use them to make this pattern.
(Watch this space for the fate of the other apron.)

This apron is a pain in the behind to make, but I think it's totally worth it. The instructions left a lot to be desired, which means the first time I made it, I felt like I was winging it. The second time was easier, but still time-consuming.

Nonetheless, this is a hot apron. The proportions are a bit teeny, though - look how massive my shoulders look! Or did I just strike a body-builder pose in my haste to show of these cute little pockets?

Anyway, Tie One On = DONE. This may be my favorite entry yet :)

Quilt Monday - log cabin love!

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Can you believe I used to hate log cabins?

I guess that's because my introduction to them was when homespun and primative still ruled the log cabin aesthetic.  Now, seeing hip fabrics striping around eachother is like fabric prozac…

I can't wait for October, so I can make another installment of my log cabin block of the month quilt!

Meet the Seamsters!

Thanks to a little help from Hambone, the International Sisterhood of Seamsters - San Francisco Local 101! - finally has a website!

This ad was put together by the talented and hardworking Nicole of Queen Puff Puff. Gotta love her graphic design skills, almost as much as the gorgous handbag in the photo. The adorable orange leash and collar was made by Deborah of ChicCosas. She sells them in a whole variety of prints and sizes. Seriously, they make me want to get a dog.

And, of course, the totally inappropriate eye shade was crafted by yours truly. It's available on my site, in fact.

I'm so lucky to be working with such amazing women. It's easy to meet up with creative and skilled folks who have crafty businesses, but really difficult to meet people as committed and industrious as Deb and Nicole - and their skill level is, naturally, incomperable. We're such a small collective, just a triumverate, really, that we have to keep our energy high. Nicole and Deb really inspire me to do that.

There's still a lot of work left to do on our site, but do check us out anyway. We are scrappy in more ways than one, and we know we can take over the world, one seam at a time!

Quilt Monday: Block of the Month

sept1logcabin, originally uploaded by Hambone and Jennicakes.

Thanks to finding a link to this awesome tutorial, I was able to make this modified, modernized log cabin quilt block. I did have to mess around with the measurements a bit, which could very well be my fault - for a quilter, my math skills are nothing to brag about.

You can't tell from the pic, but all the strips I used are 3 whole inches wide, which makes this block an absolute beast: 20.5" x 20"! So an even dozen should get me a quilt of very respectable size - and my plan is to make one a month.

I have a tendency to use the same few fabrics over and over for everything until they are nothing but tiny shreds, which will REALLY come across in the block-a-month meme.

And, aesthetics be damned, I am arranging them chronologically. Yikes.

So watch this space for more crazy logcabinishness. Or better yet, do the project with me!
